Bridging the gender gap in Europe in regard to access to financing
Changes occur only when there is commitment at the highest level of the organisation. Gender balance has positive impact for organisational culture.

According to ECWT (responsible partner of gender issues in Altfinator project) nowadays the best female innovators have the talent and digital skills to compete for alternative financing on equal terms with men. More support at governmental and institutional level, will make them unstoppable.
This has been verified in the following insights obtained during Altfinator’s activities in the last months:
  • During an alternative financing event organized by ECWT in January 2018, representatives from the European Commission and European Parliament expressed their commitment to support alternative financing for women´s entrepreneurship. Several good examples of successful crowdfunding campaigns and alternative financing projects, led by female entrepreneurs, were presented in that event.
  • In July 2018, G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors reaffirmed, that governments need to do more to foster traditional and alternative financing instruments for SMEs. This must be in line with the G20/OECD High Level Principles on SME Financing.
In our opinion, female entrepreneurs and SMEs owners must be ready to take advantage of this opportunity, leveraging from useful knowledge, tools and a fierce mindset for financing.
  • Altfinator learned that, UK’s Women in Enterprise Taskforce of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has taken several steps to show the way ahead and launched a new regulated funding platform (  That platform gives access to over 120 lenders, providing different funding solutions based on the applicant’s requirements.
  • FSB together with Facebook, Enterprise National and AllBright have empowered 13,000 UK women to unleash their full potential in business, offering training, tools and know-how on starting a business, as well as, how alternative financing can help to grow their businesses; and raising the visibility of successful female entrepreneurs, acting as role models, through PR campaign #100FSBWomen.
In 2019 and 2020, Altfinator will continue mapping and providing information about women’s participation in alternative financing in these target countries: Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Lithuania. You wouldn’t want to miss it. Stay tuned!
